South African students are nearing the end of the 2023 school year before taking a well-deserved Christmas/New Year break.
But, before they know it, they’ll be packing their belongings and returning to their workstations in 2024.
According to The South African website, all public schools, both inland and on the coast, will use the same term calendar in 2024, a change from prior years.
As previously, there is no distinction between inland and coastal schools breaking up and returning to school.
The Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and North West are inland provinces, while the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Northern Cape, and Western Cape are coastal provinces.
The fourth term in 2023 will conclude on Wednesday, December 13th.
After finishing their final year exams, many matriculants are already on vacation.
According to the Department of Basic Education’s 2024 school calendar, next year will have 203 school days spread across four terms, which is four more days than in 2023.
The 2024 school year will begin on January 17, 2024.
These are the dates for the 2024 public school terms:
- Term 1: 17 January to 20 March (46 days)
- Term 2: 3 April to 14 June (52 days)
- Term 3: 9 July to 20 September (53 days)
- Term 4: 1 October to 11 December (52 days)
